Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves.” ~S. Moss
Students should arrive dressed for the day’s weather, remembering that layers are the best tool for staying comfortable outdoors. We encourage each student to keep an extra set of clothes at school and to refresh these items seasonally. A designated space in the classroom is available for storing spare clothes. Please send the extra set in a labeled bag with your student’s name. If you have an additional pair of boots or shoes for school use, we are happy to store those as well.
Backpack Any backpack will do, however students may need to carry their bags with them at times depending on the schedule of the day. Some students use the hydration backpacks that have the water bottle built in but that also can fit their lunch box. The more hands-free a student can be while hiking, the better.
Waterbottle Students should have water with them daily. If they opt to use a hydration pack for their backpack, they are encouraged to also have a water bottle at school that can be available to them when they are sitting at a desk/table if they feel that will be easier.
Lunch and 2 snacks Please be sure to pack your child with an ice pack in an insulated lunch box/bag. We encourage families to use as many reusable packing materials as possible, when possible (silverware, tupperware, reusable baggies, cloth napkins, etc.)
Sunscreen and Bug Spray While in the summer the property at Incarnation Center is well shaded, once the leaves are off the trees, we are much more exposed to the sun. Students are encouraged to wear sunscreen daily before coming to school, and in the spring months, when the sun’s rays become stronger but the leaves are not yet out, students should bring sunscreen to reapply later in the day.
Extra Layers and Gear Rain coat and boots. Please no umbrellas. Snow pants, boots, gloves, helmet Sweatshirt, sweatpants Bathing suit, goggles, and towel
